In 2016, Queens Distance Runners hosted a handful of cultural runs that reflected the communities that make Queens the most diverse borough in the world.
One of them was a Philippines 4-Miler
Since then, QDR has grown.
What began as grassroots gatherings has evolved into a full slate of race events, a marathon weekend, and a borough-wide running movement. But growth should never mean forgetting who we are.
That’s why we are proud to reintroduce our Cultural Run Series — beginning with the return of our Filipino Run.

One of the most influential and supportive members of our extended Queens running family has been Christine from The August Tree at the Queens Museum. She has welcomed our runners warmly, supported our events, and embodies exactly what makes Queens special: generosity, pride, and community.
Christine, who is Filipino, played a key role behind the scenes in shaping the vision of this race, including helping design the official logo for the Amihan Filipino Run.
The Amihan Run logo is inspired by Amihan, the gentle yet powerful wind deity in Filipino mythology — symbolizing movement, change, and new beginnings.
In many Philippine traditions, Amihan represents the cool northeast monsoon: bringing clarity, calm, and the promise of a fresh season.
The design reflects that spirit:
- Flowing hair and sweeping wind patterns represent speed, endurance, and the unstoppable force of runners moving forward.- Birds in flight symbolize freedom and elevation.- The rising sun embodies hope, vitality, and the enduring Filipino spirit.
Taking inspiration from colors from the Philippine flag:
- Deep blue for strength and motion- Gold for energy and triumph- White for clarity and balance
The logo captures both cultural heritage and athletic dynamism — resilient, uplifting, and proudly Filipino.
A celebration of Queens’ Filipino community.
And a reminder that our borough’s strength is powered by diversity.
