The Active Witness Challenge is a virtual fundraiser hosted in commemoration of the 1965 March on Selma. We invite participants to walk, run, bike, swim or make an active donation. The success of the 1965 March on Selma is rooted in the public or communal activation of faith. Whether they stayed back to provide meals and prayer or they marched mile after mile, the success of the March on Selma can be attributed to a community effort. During the entire month of March, we invite you to be a part of this community investing in the continuation of a holy legacy.
The Witness Inc., boldly continues this witness through our podcast suite, articles and our signature Fellowship Program. Each of us can make a contribution to the flourishing of our community. Our fundraising goal for this event is $50,000. We invite you to take the challenge today!
The Witness, Inc. was incorporated on October 18, 2018 expanding and providing organizational structure to its multimedia platform, The Witness, Black Christian Collective (BCC). The Witness BCC focuses on hosting podcasts, special events, and written resources. On October 27, 2020 The Witness Foundation (TWF) was formed as the philanthropic arm of The Witness, BCC. The Witness Foundation continues the movement for racial justice by identifying, training and funding the next generation of Black Christian leaders. Both arms (the BCC and TWF) within The Witness Inc, were founded by author, historian, and New York Times bestseller, Dr. Jemar Tisby.
Who: Anyone can participate in this fundraiser.
What: This is a virtual fundraiser to commemorate the 1965 march on Selma.
When: This fundraiser will take place March 1-31, 2025. We will meet virtually for times of encouragement.
Where: There is no physical location so you can virtually participate where you are.
How: Instructions are at the bottom of the page and you will be sent a link to upload your results 24 hours before the first day to upload. This link will also have instructions on how to upload your distances and photos. If agreeable, you can be featured on Instagram and Facebook. Be sure to follow and tag us when sharing, and use the hashtags #activewitnesschallenge and #werunbecausetheywalked
