The Runner in Red 5K draws its name from the Boston Marathon mystery novel “Runner in Red,” by Tom Murphy. The novel is based on a real-life Boston Marathon legend that a woman “wearing red” snuck into the Boston Marathon in 1951, fifteen years before history knew of the first woman runner. The novel is a mystery, love story and family drama that explores the history of women’s running – and raises funds to cure lung cancer.
