About The Braden James Fund
Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG is the deadliest pediatric cancer. 90% of children diagnosed with this incurable disease pass away within two years and less than 1% survive five years. The Braden James Fund was formed in honor of its namesake who passed away in 2022 at 5.5 years old after an 18 month battle with the disease. The Fund helps children and their families battling DIPG cope with the pain of this journey through a three-pronged approach: PLAY, ADVOCATE and CURE
With your help, funds from last year’s race significantly improved the quality of life for pediatric cancer patients and advanced research for treatments. Here are some highlights:
1. Funding a Child Life Specialist at Children’s National Hospital, tripling their capacity, to enhance emotional support for pediatric brain tumor patients.2. Providing audio and video equipment at Sibley Memorial to ease pediatric patients' anxiety during radiation therapy.3. Covering meals for families traveling for their children's radiation therapy.4. Supporting UCSF's research on the adverse effects of trial drugs based on genetic profiles in pediatric neuro-oncology.
