ABOUT

The Rally for Rebecca 5K Walk, Run, Roll is the inaugural race to support the nonprofit organization Help Hope Live, in honor of Plainview resident Rebecca Koltun. Participants can join virtually or in person.

On March 13, 2021, Rebecca, then 21 years old, suffered catastrophic injuries to her neck and spinal cord in a life-threatening ski accident.  Now paralyzed from the neck down, Rebecca can see, hear, speak, and understand, but is unable to move her arms or legs. The medical name for her condition is quadriplegia.

The cost of Rebecca’s medical care is staggering.  She requires round-the-clock care from specially trained nursing staff, as well as regular physical, occupational, and respiratory therapies. The equipment she needs just to get through the day includes a custom wheelchair, adapted van, electronic hospital bed and Hoyer lift, and a host of medical supplies all of which require regular maintenance and replenishment.  The cost of her care has exceeded $1 million in the first year, and will likely approach $250-300k/year for the rest of her life.  You can find more information about the cost of caring for a spinal cord injury and follow Rebecca's story here.

REBECCA'S TIK TOK

From the very beginning, Rebecca's community of family and friends from around the globe have rallied to her support with kindness and generosity.  Whether you choose to Rally for Rebecca as a Sponsor, Participant, Volunteer or simply by making a donation, Rebecca, her brother Erik and her parents (Audrey and Scott Koltun), are forever grateful for whatever support you can offer.

We look forward to seeing you on May 28th!
