EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION

Since 1893, Helen Keller Services (HKS) has been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are blind, have low vision, DeafBlind or have combined hearing and vision loss.

HKS is comprised of Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Youth and Adults, a division headquartered in Sands Point, New York, with a network of regional offices that extends HKS’ reach across the United States, and Helen Keller Services for the Blind, a regional division serving the New York City/Long Island area.

Our national and regional centers maintain regular communication, relaying the latest safety information and providing services or connecting individuals to resources in their local communities. From early intervention for children to senior citizen programs that help older adults gain skills to live as independently as possible, we’re there for people at every stage of their lives.

The funds raised from Helen’s Run.Walk.Ride.2022 will go to support Helen Keller Services (HKS) Health & Wellness Program. The Health & Wellness Program benefits individuals ages 18 and older who are blind, have low vision, DeafBlind, and/or have intellectual disabilities.

This important and popular program among HKS consumers provides accessible physical health activities and mental health initiatives, both in-person and virtually, in the Brooklyn, Hempstead, Islandia, and Sands Point, NY locations, and includes but is not limited to dance movement therapy, yoga and/or Pilates instruction, nutrition education, creative arts therapy, gardening activities, aromatherapy, and workshops on various topics related to health and wellness, including a quarterly mental health and self-advocacy component.
